DA asks Lesufi to blacklist officials facing corruption investigations

The Democratic Alliance in Gauteng has asked Premier Panyaza Lesufi to place officials facing corruption investigations on the national register used to verify dismissals and resignations.

The call followed the appointment of former Gauteng Health head Arnold Lesiba Malotana as the City of Johannesburg’s head of public safety.

Malotana was suspended by the Gauteng government in October 2025 after a Special Investigating Unit investigation linked him to alleged procurement irregularities at Tembisa Hospital.

The allegations have not been tested in court, and the investigation does not amount to a finding of guilt.

Opposition seeks disclosure on disciplinary action

DA Gauteng leader Solly Msimanga said Lesufi should explain what disciplinary action had been taken and why lifestyle-audit reports involving officials had not been made public.

The party said officials with unresolved disciplinary matters should be entered on the central register pending the conclusion of their cases, arguing that this would prevent appointments in other parts of government.

The National Central Register for Verification of Dismissals and Resignations is used by departments when checking the employment history of prospective senior officials.

Neither Lesufi’s office nor Malotana’s response to the DA’s call was included in the reports available on Monday afternoon.
