South African job seekers have several government vacancies to consider as departments begin closing applications during the first half of September.

The Department of Water and Sanitation’s official recruitment portal lists posts with a closing time of 16:30 on 11 September 2026. The available roles span administrative, technical and management work.

They include Deputy Director-General: Water Resource Management, Registry Clerk, Driver or Messenger, Director: Departmental Information Security Officer, Control Engineering Technologist posts in electrical and civil engineering, Engineer Production, Senior Human Resources Practitioner and Water Control Officer.

Applicants should use the department’s vacancy portal to confirm the reference number, centre, salary level, qualifications and experience required for the specific post. Requirements differ considerably between entry-level, professional and senior-management roles.

Gauteng health vacancy

The Gauteng Provincial Government jobs portal lists a Professional Nurse (Speciality) post in ophthalmology, Grade 1, with applications closing on 2 September 2026. Candidates should check the live listing for the employing facility, professional registration requirements and supporting documents before applying.

Environmental affairs posts

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment’s official e-recruitment portal also shows current vacancies with 14 September 2026 closing dates. Job seekers should open each vacancy on the portal rather than relying on a shared screenshot or forwarded message, because the official listing contains the applicable duties and eligibility requirements.

Apply through the official portal

Government recruitment adverts normally require applicants to quote the correct reference number and submit all required information before the deadline. A late or incomplete application may not be considered.

Before submitting, compare the qualifications and experience in the advert with the information on the CV, check contact details, and save the confirmation generated by the recruitment system. Applicants should not pay anyone to submit an application or secure an interview.

Vacancies can be amended or withdrawn. The official department or provincial recruitment portal remains the authoritative place to confirm whether a post is open and how an application must be submitted.
