Mkhwanazi committee continues work on draft report

Parliament's ad hoc committee investigating allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi continued its consideration of a draft report on Monday.

The virtual meeting formed part of the committee's work to process evidence and prepare its report for the National Assembly.

Parliament's official committee page lists the 31 August meeting alongside earlier draft-report sessions held during August. It also contains witness statements, committee documents and recordings of public proceedings.

The committee was established after Mkhwanazi made wide-ranging allegations about interference and misconduct within South Africa's criminal justice system. Those claims have been examined through evidence from police officials, public office-bearers and other witnesses.

A draft report is not a final finding. The committee must complete its deliberations and formally adopt a report before it can be sent to the National Assembly.

Parliament previously cautioned against treating preliminary draft material as an adopted outcome. Chairperson Soviet Lekganyane said in July that findings and recommendations were still being incorporated and considered by members.

No final report or adopted findings were listed on the official committee page when EBNewsDaily checked it early on Tuesday. Any formal outcome will be reported from Parliament's adopted record.
