3 September 2026 – The South African Football Association (SAFA) is pleased to hear that celebrated Cape Town football legend Pepe Dos Santos is slowly regaining his strength after falling ill two weeks ago.

Sergio Dos Santos, Pepe’s brother, told www.safa.net that his health is improving, and they can see him slowly returning to his old self. “He’s in a better condition now than he was, for example, up to about two weeks ago. He is in a much better space now,” he said.

Sergio said his brother has improved so much that he hopes to take him to a function that will be held in honour of sporting legends at Athlone Stadium on Heritage Day (Thursday, 24 Sept 2026). “I am hoping I can get him there.”

“This is such good news, we are happy to hear that this legend is getting better and will be present to take his place among the legends that will be honoured,” said SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan.

During his playing days, Pepe Dos Santos turned out for Arcadia Shepherds, Hellenic, Bloemfontein City, Cape Town City, among others.

He also played in Australia and in Mozambique. Pepe met Eusébio in Mozambique before he moved to Portugal and they later became great friends. He also played for Glenville and later coached the team in the Federation Professional League.
