Bosa puts water and electricity reliability at centre of local election campaign

Build One South Africa says reliable water and electricity will be central to its campaign for the 2026 local government elections.

Party leader Mmusi Maimane launched Bosa’s municipal manifesto in Johannesburg on Saturday, according to an RSG news bulletin.

Maimane said the party would prioritise dependable access to clean water and electricity for households and businesses. Bosa also wants municipal administrations to address infrastructure failures that contribute to service interruptions.

The commitments are campaign promises and have not yet been implemented. Their delivery would depend on the councils in which Bosa wins representation or enters governing arrangements after the election.

Water and electricity are expected to feature heavily in metropolitan and local campaigns because planned outages, ageing infrastructure, maintenance backlogs and billing disputes directly affect residents and businesses.

Bosa will compete with established parties and independent candidates for council seats. South Africans elect ward and proportional-representation councillors; the resulting councils then elect mayors and form administrations.
