Temba Bavuma will lead a 16-player Proteas ODI squad against Australia, with Gerald Coetzee returning and Kagiso Rabada unavailable through injury.

Temba Bavuma will captain a 16-player South African squad for the three-match One-Day International series against Australia later this month.

The selectors have recalled fast bowler Gerald Coetzee to the 50-over side. Coetzee last played an ODI for South Africa during the 2023 Cricket World Cup in India.

Kagiso Rabada was not considered as he continues his recovery from injury, while Aiden Markram is set to miss the opening match.

The batting options include Quinton de Kock, Ryan Rickelton and Tony de Zorzi, giving the team cover at the top of the order for the first match.

The series begins in Durban on 24 September. Australia is also due to play three Test matches during the tour.

The ODI squad combines senior players with several options who have featured across South Africa's limited-overs teams. Bavuma's return as captain provides continuity at the start of a demanding home programme.

Coetzee's selection adds pace and experience to the attack after a long gap between ODI appearances. The medical team will continue to monitor Rabada's recovery before any later selection decisions.

Further match details and final playing elevens will be confirmed closer to the opening fixture.
