The Mayibuye Clinic construction project in Munsieville, Krugersdorp, remains unfinished years after work began, leaving residents without the local health facility first promised to the community in 2009.

Construction started in 2017. An eNCA report says R7.8 million of the project's R60 million budget had been spent before work stopped.

The site currently consists mainly of a concrete slab and pillars. Security has been placed at the property to guard against vandalism, while grass and weeds have grown around the unfinished structure.

The clinic was intended to bring primary healthcare services closer to Munsieville residents. In its absence, residents interviewed by eNCA said they had to travel to Sterkfontein Hospital for healthcare.

A contractor appointed in 2015 was later dismissed, according to the report. No revised completion date was included in the information published this week.

The long delay has kept attention on the gap between the project's original purpose and the limited work visible at the site.

Gauteng's provincial government has repeatedly said it wants to improve access to healthcare infrastructure, but the Mayibuye Clinic remains incomplete.

EBNewsDaily had not received a fresh project timetable or updated spending breakdown from the responsible authorities by publication. The initial R60 million project figure and R7.8 million expenditure were reported by eNCA.
