SACP says it will contest all 402 North West wards
The SACP says it intends to contest all 402 wards in the North West as it prepares for its first independent local-election campaign.
The South African Communist Party says it plans to field candidates in all 402 wards in the North West in the 2026 local government elections.
The party is preparing to launch its provincial manifesto next week and has begun community programmes in the Mamusa Local Municipality, which includes Schweizer-Reneke.
North West provincial secretary Smuts Matshe said the SACP wanted councillors in every municipality in the province.
“We are contesting all 402 wards in this province, and our goal is to have the councillors of the SACP in every municipality,” Matshe said.
Independent election campaign
The local elections mark the first time the SACP is contesting an election independently rather than campaigning solely through its alliance with the African National Congress.
Matshe said the party would use the week before the manifesto launch to work in communities and engage residents.
He said the campaign in Mamusa would focus on service delivery and on the party's promise to field capable and ethical councillors.
The SACP's pledge to contest every ward is a statement of electoral intent. Final candidate participation remains subject to the Electoral Commission's nomination and compliance processes.
The party had not released its full North West candidate list in the announcement reported on Sunday.
