Police are searching for two assailants after six 16-year-olds were shot in Philippi East. Two died and four were seriously wounded.
Two teenagers were killed and four others seriously wounded in a shooting in Philippi East on the Cape Flats, police said on Sunday.
The attack took place on Saturday. Police spokesperson Ndakhe Gwala told SABC News that six 16-year-olds were shot by two unidentified assailants.
Two of the teenagers died at the scene. The other four were taken for medical treatment with serious injuries.
The identities of the victims have not been released.
Police search for suspects
Western Cape police have opened a murder and attempted-murder investigation and are searching for the two attackers.
Gwala said investigators had not established a motive. No arrest had been made by Sunday morning.
Police had not disclosed the circumstances immediately before the shooting or said whether the victims were known to the attackers.
The latest incident is being investigated on its own facts. Police had not linked it to another case or identified gang or extortion activity as a motive at the time of the announcement.
Further details are expected to be released if suspects are identified or the investigation establishes what led to the attack.
