Nafiz Modack trial resumes in Western Cape High Court

The trial of Nafiz Modack and 14 co-accused is expected to continue in the Western Cape High Court on Monday.

The accused face a range of charges linked to an alleged criminal enterprise, including money laundering and the murder of Anti-Gang Unit detective Charl Kinnear.

Kinnear was shot and killed outside his Bishop Lavis home in September 2020. Modack and the other accused have pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

Cross-examination continues

SABC News reported that proceedings last week focused on the cross-examination of accused number 10, Yannick Adonis, by lawyers for co-accused Ashley Tabisher, a former Anti-Gang Unit officer.

Adonis denied making a statement that he had received instructions from Modack to kill Kinnear.

The evidence forms part of a long-running trial involving multiple accused and a large charge sheet. The court has been hearing evidence about the relationships between the accused and the events prosecutors allege led to Kinnear's killing.

All allegations remain to be tested by the court. The accused are presumed innocent unless found guilty.
