Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME), Maropene Ramokgopa, will deliver the keynote address at the second Annual Youth Investment Indaba, hosted by the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA).
According to the department, the Minister’s address on Friday will underscore the government’s commitment to speeding up youth economic empowerment, fostering inclusive economic growth and building stronger strategic partnerships to unlock sustainable economic opportunities for young people.
“The Indaba serves as a strategic platform that brings together government, development finance institutions, the private sector, organised business, skills development institutions, and other key stakeholders to advance practical solutions to increase youth participation in South Africa's economy.
“Building on the outcomes of the inaugural Indaba, this year's gathering will focus on mobilising catalytic investment, supporting youth-owned enterprises, expanding access to economic value chains, aligning skills development with labour market demands and addressing structural barriers that continue to limit meaningful youth economic participation,” the DPME said in a statement.
The department explained that the Minister’s participation underscores the importance of “integrating youth development priorities into national planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation frameworks, particularly through the Medium-Term Development Plan”.
“The Minister’s keynote address is expected to emphasise the need for coordinated action across government and its social partners to translate policy commitments into measurable outcomes, strengthen accountability, and ensure young people actively participate in and benefit from South Africa's economic transformation and development agenda.
“The engagement also reinforces the role of the Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation in monitoring the government's progress towards inclusive economic growth, employment creation, skills development, and improved opportunities for young people,” the statement read.
