Tuesday, 3 November 2026, marks the second and final day for those approved to cast their special votes in the 2026 Local Government Elections.
Special Voting is an inclusivity mechanism in the country's electoral scheme, catering for registered voters who may not be able to reach voting stations due to physical infirmity or disability, and for those who may for various reasons not be in a position to present themselves on Election Day at voting stations within the wards where they are registered.
Special voting commenced at 8am and is expected to conclude at 5pm across various voting stations and at various homes across the country.

However, there were some glitches in the Western Cape. Western Cape Provincial Electoral Officer, Michael Hendrickse said despite the best efforts of the IEC and the printing company contracted to carry out the production of the ballots, there has been an unforeseen delay in the delivery of Special Vote ballots in some areas.
At a media briefing on Monday evening, the Commission expressed satisfaction with Monday's first day of special voting.
"The Commission is satisfied that the day’s proceedings create a solid basis for improved performance on day two of special votes and on election day,” the Commission said in a statement.
The Commission thanked voters, candidates, and political parties for their cooperation throughout the day and acknowledged the dedicated work of the thousands of election officials stationed at voting stations and those conducting home visits.
Voters who have not yet cast their special votes are encouraged to do so before voting stations close.
However, voters who miss their scheduled home visits will not lose their opportunity to vote.
“However, voters who miss the home visit by the election officials on 2 and 3 November are not disenfranchised. Such voters can still visit their voting station on 4 November 2026 to exercise their right to vote,” said the Commission at a media briefing on Sunday. -SAnews.gov. za
