Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) Director-General Lloyd Nedohe has visited the National Results Operations Centre (ROC) in Midrand to observe the processing and counting of votes following the 2026 Local Government Elections.

During his visit, Nedohe met with GCIS officials deployed at the centre, who have been supporting government communication efforts during the electoral process.

He expressed his appreciation for the work being carried out at the ROC and commended the pace at which the vote-counting process was progressing.

The visit also provided an opportunity to engage with GCIS staff on the ground and acknowledge their contribution to ensuring that citizens remain informed about the electoral process.

Reflecting on the elections, Nedohe described voter participation as encouraging, particularly the involvement of young people who came out to exercise their democratic rights.

He commended the millions of people who turned out to vote, noting that the participation of young people, including first-time voters, was particularly encouraging.

He observed that the previous elections had taken place under the difficult circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, making the current electoral experience different.

Nedohe also highlighted the excitement expressed by young people who were voting for the first time, saying GCIS had engaged some of them through vox pops during the election period.

He said many had shared positive experiences about participating in the democratic process for the first time.

The elections saw the involvement of various stakeholders, including the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC), government departments, and law enforcement agencies, working together to support the electoral process. -SAnews.gov.za
