Cape Town Junior City Council applications close on 30 November
Cape Town learners entering Grade 10 or 11 in 2027 can apply for a year-long programme. No previous leadership experience is required.
Cape Town learners who will be in Grade 10 or Grade 11 in 2027 have until 30 November to apply for the city's Junior City Council programme.
The year-long programme is open to learners living in Cape Town. Activities generally take place on Saturdays during the school year, and applicants must be able to commit to attending and participating.
According to the City's 26 October announcement, no previous leadership experience is required. The application window opened on 1 November.
The programme brings together 50 young people each year. It includes workshops, visits to municipal facilities, engagement with City leaders, volunteering and a community project. Participants also elect a Junior Mayor and other office bearers.
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an interview. Applying does not establish that a learner has been selected.
Prospective participants should use the online application link in the official notice and check the requirements before submitting. This is a current application guide, rather than an announcement that a new council has already been chosen.
