Cape Town pensioner rates relief: apply by 30 November

Eligible residents have until 30 November to apply or renew. Cape Town explains full billing while applications await approval and credits after approval.

Eligible Cape Town pensioners and social grant recipients have until 30 November 2026 to submit new or renewal applications for property-rates relief.

The City's 22 October notice explains that qualifying residents continue to be billed in full while their applications await approval. After approval, the applicable credit appears on the account, with benefits backdated to 1 July 2026.

The City says pensioner and social grant rebate applications must be renewed following General Valuation 2025. Approved rebates cover 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2029, with renewal once every three years in line with the valuation cycle.

Residents can obtain forms from municipal walk-in centres or through the links in the official notice. Completed applications can be submitted at a walk-in centre or emailed to rates.rebate@capetown.gov.za.

The notice also lists a WhatsApp route specifically for renewals. Applicants should check the relevant form and current eligibility requirements before sending supporting information.

This is an application deadline guide, not confirmation that an individual qualifies or that a pending application has been approved. The October notice provides no guaranteed processing date.
