IEC orders recounts in five wards as results remain provisional
SABC reports recount orders for five wards across four municipalities. Possible changes to provisional seats are not confirmed revised allocations.
The Electoral Commission has ordered vote recounts in five wards, according to a SABC report published on Saturday evening.
The affected wards are Tshwane's wards 57 and 102, Mangaung's ward 19, Thaba Chweu's ward 4 and Breede Valley's ward 12.
SABC's 7 November report attributes the announcement to IEC chairperson Mosotho Moepya. It says the number of seats shown in provisional election results could change depending on the outcome of objections.
That possibility is not confirmation of revised allocations. The report establishes that recounts have been ordered, rather than providing completed recount totals or verified gains and losses for individual parties.
The Commission said it would work to finalise objections before announcing election results. The recount process and the consideration of objections should therefore be distinguished from a final declaration of electoral outcomes.
