Penguin Palooza returns to Betty’s Bay on Saturday
Stony Point's conservation event is scheduled for 10:00 on 7 November, with children's activities and a chance to learn about protecting African penguins.
Penguin Palooza is scheduled to return to Stony Point Nature Reserve in Betty's Bay at 10:00 on Saturday, 7 November, bringing families closer to efforts to protect African penguins.
CapeNature says the event will include children's activities, vendors and opportunities to meet organisations working in seabird and marine conservation. Visitors can observe the colony from the reserve's boardwalk, which helps limit disturbance to the birds.
The event highlights the work of CapeNature and SANCCOB. CapeNature monitors and protects breeding colonies, while SANCCOB rehabilitates injured, ill and distressed seabirds.
African penguins face threats including reduced food availability, pollution and habitat disturbance. The species was classified as Critically Endangered in 2024, according to CapeNature.
Visitors are encouraged to respect breeding colonies and avoid littering. The organiser's announcement does not specify event admission charges, so check access arrangements with CapeNature before travelling.
The event details come from CapeNature's 20 October announcement. This is a preview of the scheduled gathering, not a report that it has already taken place.
