FIFA, SAFA host landmark Elite Goalkeeping and Youth Coach Workshop in Johannesburg

3 August 2026 – FIFA, in strategic partnership with the South African Football Association (SAFA), is hosting a landmark Elite Goalkeeping and Youth Coach Workshop at The Wanderers in Johannesburg.

The workshop, which began on Monday 3 August 2026 and is running under Friday 7 August 2026, is designed to revolutionize local technical standards, and this initiative bridges the gap between South African talent and the rapid demands of the modern game.

Bridging the Modern Game Gap:

Modern football requires goalkeepers to act as dynamic outfield sweepers and initiating playmakers, while youth players require hyper-tactical, modern conditioning. This workshop introduces cutting-edge training methodologies, advanced match analysis, and modern tactical integration to future-proof local coaching capabilities.

Strategic Objectives

Tactical Modernization: Introducing contemporary drills and tactical concepts that reflect global high-performance trends.
Inclusive Empowerment: Upskilling coaches from National Team structures, provincial bodies, and academies – spanning both men’s and women’s football – to ensure systemic growth.
Sustainable Pipeline: Establishing a standardized elite framework across grassroots and elite development to maximize long-term athletic output.

By empowering a diverse cohort of coaches with world-class skill sets, FIFA and SAFA are ensuring that South African football remains competitive, adaptable, and tactically forward-thinking on the global stage.

Coaches from all the nine provinces were invited from the National team structures, the PSL, provincial and regional structures to participate in the five day workshop, which includes theory, technical and practical sessions.
