EFF’s Advocate Dali Mpofu has launched a campaign to have De Klerk stripped of the Nobel Peace Prize he received jointly with Nelson Mandela.
Mpofu argues that the Peace Prize should be taken away from De Klerk because he is not fit to have it.
“I don’t think there is any debate about the merits of taking the price away because the Price does not fit the man,” Mpofu said.
EFF’s calls to have De Klerk removed started at the National Assembly during the delivery of SONA Thursday evening. The party refused to sit in the same parliament with FW De Klerk.
De Klerk spoke his views about apartheid during the 30th year commemorations of the unbanning of liberation political parties where he seemed oblivious of the UN’s classification of apartheid as a crime against humanity.
EFF Rejected De Klerk’s Apology
The FW De Klerk Foundation issued an apology after a backlash from the public and other institutions. The Nelson Mandela Foundation and the Desmond Tutu Foundation both lashed the former president’s views on apartheid.
EFF further issued a statement rejecting the foundation’s apology statement.
Former president Thabo Mbeki said De Klerk was not aware that the United Nations had designated apartheid as a crime against humanity.
