Minister in the Presidency office of South Africa, Jackson Mthembu causes a stir on social media after confusing the word vibrator for ventilator.
Mthembu suggests that government when rolling out personal protective clothing in hospitals such as masks and gloves should also give vibrators to help those who are seriously ill in hospitals due to COVID-19.
“Government is dealing with issues of personal protective clothing, which we are rolling out in all our hospitals, also including issues of vibrators that we need for those who are seriously ill in hospitals,” he said.
Although Minister Mthembu has confused the word vibrators for ventilators, social media did not forgive him, but used his mistake to incite humorous arguments.
Mthembu’s suggestion caused a ruckus on social media with various arguments, some suggest that hospitals should only get ventilators and Personal Protective clothing, while vibrators should go to those at home.
However, some were of the notion that Minister Mthembu is right and vibrators are really needed to help women especially during this time of lockdown.
But what left many in stitches is the idea of patients in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) using vibrators, surely this might as well go down as the joke of the year.
Although this can’t be the time for jokes as the world is battling a deadly COVID-19 pandemic which has claimed over 200 000 lives, but who blames social media for making jokes when the honorable minister himself said vibrators instead of ventilators.
