A 44-year-old German tourist was safely rescued on Good Friday evening after getting into difficulty while kayaking near the Knysna Heads.
According to NSRI Knysna station commander Jerome Simonis, the rescue operation was launched at 18:24 after eyewitnesses reported seeing a man on a sea kayak appearing to be in distress near the outer bar at the Knysna Heads.
The NSRI Knysna duty crew immediately responded from Station 12, launching the rescue craft Jaytee IV, while an additional response came from an NSRI crew member using a private vessel.
