One person was killed and two others wounded when about 10 armed assailants robbed customers at a restaurant in Moletlane, outside Polokwane, Limpopo police said.

The robbery took place on Saturday. Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the group entered the restaurant and took about 13 cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The attackers allegedly fired shots, injuring three men. One of the victims later died in hospital.

Stolen vehicle recovered

Ledwaba said the assailants fled in a white Isuzu bakkie belonging to one of the victims.

The vehicle was later found abandoned on a road near a lodge, not far from the restaurant, and was recovered by police.

Police have not released the name of the person who died or provided further details about the two injured men.

The number of attackers, stolen items and other details are based on the police account. The investigation is continuing.
