The Investigating Directorate Against Corruption has warned the public about an imposter using acting head Ntuthuzelo Vanara’s name and photograph to solicit sensitive information.

IDAC said the person was communicating from a cellphone number that does not belong to Vanara. The directorate has referred the matter to the police for investigation.

The warning concerns an alleged impersonation attempt. No suspect had been publicly identified or charged in the information available at the time of publication.

Directorate urges caution over requests

IDAC is a unit within the National Prosecuting Authority responsible for investigating and prosecuting serious corruption cases. Information obtained by someone falsely claiming to represent its leadership could compromise individuals or investigations.

The directorate urged anyone receiving an unexpected request in Vanara’s name to verify it through official NPA or IDAC channels before sharing documents, personal details or case information.

IDAC did not disclose the number being used by the alleged imposter in the report reviewed by EBNewsDaily. It also did not say whether any person had already supplied information or suffered a loss.

The police investigation will have to establish who operated the account, what information was sought and whether any criminal offences were committed.
