Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Princess Faku has unveiled a newly procured specialised fleet to strengthen the city’s waste management capacity and improve service delivery across the metro.

The fleet was unveiled during a recent handover of the Solid Waste and Environmental Management Project held at Gonubie Resort in KuGompo City and will equip municipal teams with the necessary resources to maintain clean, safe and healthy communities.

The acquisition forms part of the municipality’s ongoing efforts to improve refuse collection, combat illegal dumping and promote environmental cleanliness across its communities.

The newly procured fleet comprises 10 compactor trucks, one tipper truck and one landfill compactor truck.

These vehicles strengthen the municipality’s operational capacity, improve daily waste collection and support the delivery of efficient and sustainable waste management services.

Faku emphasised that the investment reflected the municipality’s commitment to improving basic service delivery and ensuring that residents live in clean, healthy and safe environments.

“Today is more than a ceremonial handover of vehicles and machinery.

“It is a demonstration of our commitment in building a municipality that responds to the needs of its people, restores dignity to our communities and ensures that every resident can live in a clean, healthy and safe environment,” she stated.

The Mayor called on residents, community members and local businesses to work together with the municipality to combat illegal dumping and take collective responsibility for keeping neighbourhoods clean and safe.

Furthermore, she highlighted the importance of strengthening municipal resources to ensure reliable and efficient waste management services.

In a statement, the municipality echoed these sentiments, emphasising that the fleet is a demonstration of the commitment to strengthening operational capacity and improving environmental management.

“Through this investment, the Metro aims to enhance refuse collection, promote responsible waste disposal and improve the quality of life of communities across the city,” a metro statement read. – SAnews.gov.za
