Applications for National Student Financial Aid Scheme funding for the 2027 academic year close on Saturday, 31 October 2026. NSFAS lists the cut-off as 23:59 South African time.

The scheme reiterated in a statement issued on 28 October that the deadline would not be extended. The Department of Higher Education and Training’s advisory on Friday also described Saturday as the final application day.

How to submit your application

Use myNSFAS, reached through the official NSFAS website. Applying is free.

Register or sign in using your existing account. New applicants need a South African ID number, cellphone number and email address. Complete the personal and household sections, provide the required consent and upload the documents requested for your circumstances.

Check the information before submitting, then keep the application reference number. Your myNSFAS account is also the place to track the application.

Do matric learners have to wait for results?

No. In a reminder published by SAnews on 27 October, Higher Education and Training Minister Buti Manamela urged prospective students, particularly those in Grade 12, to apply before the deadline. Funding remains subject to the applicable eligibility checks.

Documents and account safety

NSFAS warns that incomplete information, incorrect details or missing documents can affect verification and processing. Read the requirements shown in your own application rather than assuming that everybody needs the same supporting documents.

Do not pay an intermediary or share your password or one-time PIN. For assistance, NSFAS lists its toll-free number as 0800 067 327.
