A new State witness is expected to testify in the attempted-murder trial of Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and four co-accused in the Johannesburg High Court on Tuesday.
The accused face charges including attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and money laundering. They have not been convicted.
The case concerns the shooting in which socialite Tebogo Thobejane was wounded. Businessman Joe Sibanyoni and music producer Seunkie Mokubung also form part of the State’s case.
The High Court is currently hearing a trial within a trial about whether evidence challenged by accused Musa Kekana may be admitted.
On Monday, a medical doctor testified about injuries Kekana alleged were caused while he was in police custody. Kekana has also challenged the search of his home. Those claims are before the court and have not been determined in this report.
The new witness is expected to continue the State’s evidence on Tuesday. The court will decide the admissibility dispute before the main trial can proceed on the affected evidence.
Matlala and the other accused remain before the Johannesburg High Court. EBNewsDaily will update the case when the court records a material ruling or fresh evidence.
