Who appears among the richest people in the world? This guide explains the businesses behind the first ten entries in Forbes’ 2026 annual list and how to read the estimates.

How this list was selected

Order and wealth estimates follow Forbes’ annual 2026 ranking, using its 1 March 2026 valuation snapshot. This is the first ten in Forbes’ annual global list, rather than its continually changing real-time table. All figures below are estimated US dollar billions, not cash balances or today’s live values. Company and biographical sources were checked on 3 November 2026. EBNewsDaily has not independently valued these fortunes. No placement was sold.

1. Elon Musk

Business focus: Technology and industry.

Musk’s business interests span electric vehicles, energy technology and spaceflight. Tesla’s corporate biography describes his leadership at Tesla and SpaceX, as well as earlier technology ventures. His position in a wealth table therefore reflects interests in several companies, whose valuations can move differently. A publicly traded share price is visible throughout a trading day; a privately held company needs a different valuation process. That mix is one reason an estimated fortune can change sharply without a corresponding cash payment. This guide uses the annual Forbes snapshot throughout, rather than combining a recent headline about one company with another date’s wealth estimate.

2. Larry Page

Business focus: Internet and technology.

Page cofounded Google with Sergey Brin in 1998. The company’s founders’ letters document the later creation of Alphabet as a parent structure, placing Google alongside other ventures. His career is consequently associated with both the original search business and the wider corporate group. For readers, the distinction between a brand, its operating company and its parent matters when following market news. Personal wealth is linked to the value of an individual’s interests, rather than the full sales or market value of the group. Page and Brin are separate entries in the list even though their fortunes share an important corporate origin.

3. Sergey Brin

Business focus: Internet and technology.

Brin’s place in the list comes from the business he cofounded with Larry Page and the ownership interests that followed. Alphabet’s account of its structure explains why Google and the parent group should not be used as interchangeable names in every context. Google Search, for example, is a product within a much broader organisation. A founder’s biography also differs from the present management chart: founding a company does not mean holding every operating role indefinitely. The annual wealth table answers a valuation question about an individual at a particular date, while the company’s current reporting answers questions about its organisation and performance.

4. Jeff Bezos

Business focus: E-commerce and cloud computing.

Bezos founded Amazon in 1994 and is identified in its investor biography as executive chair. Amazon’s activities extend well beyond the online shop, including cloud infrastructure, devices and entertainment. Bezos also founded space company Blue Origin. Those different businesses explain why reducing his career to the sale of books misses much of the story. Equally, the scale of Amazon’s operations does not mean its founder personally owns all of the company’s assets. Read a personal wealth estimate as an assessment of ownership interests and other holdings, while consulting company reports for revenue, profit and operational information.

5. Mark Zuckerberg

Business focus: Social platforms and technology.

Zuckerberg founded the business originally known as Facebook in 2004. Meta’s newsroom identifies him as its founder, chairman and chief executive, responsible for overall direction and product strategy. His career is associated with the growth of social platforms into a major technology business. It is useful to distinguish an individual app from the wider company behind it, especially when interpreting financial headlines. A large user base is an operating measure; it is not itself a personal fortune. The value attributed to a founder’s shareholding depends on ownership and valuation, and can move even when familiar services continue operating much as before.

6. Larry Ellison

Business focus: Enterprise software.

Ellison’s career is associated with Oracle and the development of enterprise software. The company’s leadership announcement records his move to executive chairman and chief technology officer in 2014, separating those responsibilities from the chief executive position. Enterprise technology can be less visible to consumers than a social network or shopping app, yet it supports the systems organisations use to run their operations. This provides useful context for a technology-heavy wealth table. The value of a founder’s holdings should still be separated from the value of the whole business, its customers’ spending and any forecasts about future demand for cloud or data services.

7. Bernard Arnault & family

Business focus: Luxury goods.

Arnault’s official LVMH biography traces a career from engineering and construction into luxury goods. It describes the development of Christian Dior within his business strategy and his leadership of LVMH from 1989. His entry introduces a consumer-brand business into a list otherwise heavily represented by technology founders. The family designation is important to preserve because wealth estimates do not always describe the same unit of ownership. A luxury group’s brand portfolio, operating revenue and stock-market valuation are also different measures. The figure in the comparison table is the source’s dated estimate for the named person and family, rather than an appraisal of one brand.

8. Jensen Huang

Business focus: Semiconductors and computing.

Huang founded NVIDIA in 1993 and has led the company since its beginning, according to its corporate biography. The company describes its progression from PC graphics into parallel computing and artificial intelligence. That path helps explain why chips and computing infrastructure feature so prominently in discussions about technology wealth. It does not mean every forecast about AI has already become revenue or profit. For a business reader, product capability, customer demand and company valuation remain separate subjects. The annual estimate here places a value on personal interests at a fixed date; it is not a forecast for the semiconductor industry or a recommendation to buy shares.

9. Warren Buffett

Business focus: Investments and diversified businesses.

Buffett’s career is inseparable from Berkshire Hathaway, but his current title needs care. Berkshire announced in September 2026 that he had become chairman emeritus while remaining a director, with Howard Buffett elected chairman. Greg Abel had already succeeded him as chief executive at the start of the year. These changes do not alter the valuation date of the annual Forbes list used here. They show why a current biography and a historical wealth snapshot should be dated separately. A person’s management role, their voting influence and the value of their economic interest are different things, even when one long-serving leader is strongly identified with a company.

10. Amancio Ortega

Business focus: Clothing retail.

Ortega’s business history is connected with clothing production and the development of Zara. Inditex’s historical corporate-governance account records his garment-making business in the early 1970s and the establishment of Zara’s retail business in 1975. The combination of manufacturing and retail distribution provides a different business model from the software and semiconductor companies elsewhere in this list. A founder’s early career is useful background, but it should not be mistaken for a current executive title. The annual wealth estimate concerns the value of personal interests and assets, while present-day operating results and governance should be checked in the group’s latest reporting.

How to interpret wealth estimates

Net worth is an estimate of assets less liabilities. Company revenue, company valuation and a shareholder’s personal wealth are different measures. Share prices, exchange rates, private-company estimates and ownership changes can move a ranking. Compare figures from the same source and date; retain family labels and do not treat an annual snapshot as a live result.

Sources and updates

The ranking source is linked above, with background sources in every profile. The wealth snapshot is 1 March 2026; editorial research was checked 3 November 2026. Current roles may differ from roles at the valuation date, as noted where relevant. These are descriptive business profiles, not investment recommendations.
