Web hosting gives a website somewhere to run, but packages differ in storage, software, support and the work the customer must manage. For a South African business, a useful shortlist starts with the site’s actual needs: a simple brochure site, a WordPress publication, an online store or a more demanding application may need very different plans.

How we selected these 10

EBNewsDaily selected ten providers that publicly offer hosting services to South African customers. The alphabetical order is for navigation, not a performance ranking. We reviewed public product information on 3 November 2026; we did not buy plans, run speed or uptime tests, or independently assess customer support. Descriptions of features are based on provider information, not guarantees. No company paid for a position.

1. 1-grid

1-grid presents domains, web hosting, email and website tools as part of its South African business offering. Its published hosting catalogue includes both Linux and Windows options using Plesk, so a customer should start by checking the technology their website requires. A simple WordPress site, for example, has different requirements from an application built for a Microsoft environment. Compare the number of sites, storage and mailboxes on the specific package, and ask whether domain registration and renewal are included or charged separately. If you already have a site, get a written migration plan covering files, databases, email and the expected switchover process. Explore 1-grid.

2. Absolute Hosting

Absolute Hosting lists Linux and Windows hosting, domain registration and related products for South African customers. Its website also describes locally hosted infrastructure, although customers should confirm the location and service arrangements for the particular product they choose. The availability of different environments matters if your application depends on a particular language, database or control panel. Rather than purchasing based on storage alone, give the provider your software requirements and ask which plan supports them. Clarify who applies updates, what backups cover and whether a restore costs extra. For an existing site, ask the technical team to confirm compatibility before scheduling a move. See Absolute Hosting’s options.

3. Afrihost

Afrihost offers shared hosting and domain services alongside other connectivity products. Its published shared-hosting information describes Linux and Windows choices and includes website and email features on selected plans. When comparing packages, establish how many mailboxes and databases you need and check the terms of any domain promotion, including renewal. A domain registration and a hosting subscription are separate services even when sold together. Afrihost also advertises managed website products, which can have different portability terms from ordinary hosting. Ask whether you can export the site and transfer the domain if you later leave, and confirm any notice period before signing up. Review Afrihost shared hosting.

4. Axxess

Axxess offers hosting and domain services, including packages marketed for WordPress. Its WordPress page distinguishes hosting support from website development: having a host does not necessarily mean someone will design pages, write content or maintain every plugin for you. Ask what is included in the plan, which updates you or your developer must handle and how support is contacted. Also compare storage, mailbox and database allowances against your real needs rather than selecting solely on an introductory price. If moving an existing site, confirm migration responsibilities and how DNS changes will affect email. The right package depends on the application and support arrangement, not the product label alone. See Axxess WordPress hosting.

5. Domains.co.za

Domains.co.za describes domain registration and several hosting categories, including web, WordPress and VPS services. A company that wants domains and hosting under one account can compare those products, but should still check which functions are included in the exact package. Its educational material distinguishes shared hosting from a virtual server; that distinction matters when a website needs more control or resources. Ask for the renewal price of the domain and any promotional hosting plan, the number of sites allowed and the conditions for restoring a backup. If you use an external email provider, check the DNS changes needed before switching hosts. Explore Domains.co.za hosting.

6. Elitehost

Elitehost lists web hosting, reseller hosting, VPS and domain products. Its shared-hosting page discusses cPanel and migration assistance, including qualifications about the types of accounts and email transfers that can be moved. This makes migration scope a particularly useful topic for a prospective customer: ask the provider to review the current control panel, site size, databases and email arrangement before promising a move date. A reseller package and an ordinary shared plan serve different purposes, so explain whether you are hosting your own website or managing sites for clients. Confirm storage and resource policies as well as backup retention and restore procedures. Read Elitehost’s hosting information.

7. HOSTAFRICA

HOSTAFRICA publishes shared and WordPress hosting options as well as other infrastructure services. Its shared-hosting information lists DirectAdmin and specifies different website, storage and email allowances by plan. A buyer can use those published details to prepare a comparison, but should read the conditions attached to terms such as unlimited traffic, free domains and backups. Ask whether the quoted price is monthly or dependent on advance payment, what the renewal price will be and how an existing site would be migrated. If you need a staging environment or a particular application, verify that the selected product includes it rather than assuming every hosting plan does. Compare HOSTAFRICA web hosting.

8. Hostking

Hostking advertises web hosting for South African businesses, including plans for different types of website owner. Its published information is a starting point for checking whether its shared hosting matches a small business site or a developer’s requirements. Ask the provider about the actual limits that apply to CPU, memory, storage, email and traffic, and how those limits are communicated when a site grows. A low starting price is only one part of the decision: confirm the normal renewal charge, backup retention, restore process and available support channels. For an online shop, explain the expected application, payment integrations and importance of avoiding disruption during migration. View Hostking’s web hosting.

9. Saglohost

Saglohost lists shared, WordPress, e-commerce and business-email hosting on its website, together with domain services. Its shared-hosting page distinguishes monthly hosting from domain registration charges, an important point when comparing a first invoice with future costs. Ask which resources, backups, control-panel tools and migration assistance apply to your chosen plan, and confirm how the domain and site can be transferred if needed. Disclosure: Saglohost is a brand of Saglotech, which is connected to EBNewsDaily’s ownership and has provided services to the publication. Its inclusion is an editorial disclosure, not an independently tested recommendation or ranking advantage. Review Saglohost’s offerings.

10. xneelo

xneelo lists domain registration, web hosting and self-managed servers among its products. That gives a prospective customer a useful starting point for considering whether shared hosting is adequate or whether an application calls for a server with more control. A self-managed server can also mean more responsibility for configuration, updates and security, so clarify the division of work before comparing prices. For a standard website, ask how backups, certificates, email and support work on the selected plan. Its website notes that domain renewal can cost more than a reduced registration offer; check the full recurring cost and the terms of any promotion before ordering. Explore xneelo’s services.

Before you choose

Give each provider the same requirements: website platform, expected traffic, storage, email, backup needs, technical support and budget. Ask for the first-year and renewal cost, limits on shared resources, where data is hosted, support hours, backup restoration terms and a practical exit or migration process. Request a written answer about who controls the domain and who is responsible for security and application updates. Do not treat this list as a substitute for testing a provider against your own requirements.
