Chiefs could face a harsh 6 points deductions from the PSL
Kaizer Chiefs says following further consultations with the medical department and management regarding the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak that occurred at the Village last week, they are unable to travel for the league match against Golden Arrows.
Kaizer Chiefs missed their last DStv Premiership encounter with Cape Town City FC last weekend saying more than 30 of their staff and team members have tested positive.
The club has yet released another statement this evening saying they will also not be able to honour their next fixture against Lamontville Golden Arrows as COVID19 cases continue to increase at their camp.
Amakhosi initially said they have written to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) to request a postponement of the 5 upcoming games in December. The Golden Arrows game will be the 2nd game despite the PSL not having granted the club a stay.
Chiefs said while they await the Premier Soccer League’s decision on the Club’s request to have the remainder of their matches scheduled for December postponed, the playing squad has cautiously resumed return to play protocols today.

Last Chiefs opponents honoured the fixture and attended the game since the PSL had not called the game off. “Regrettably Chiefs did not arrive and the match officials called the game off at 18:15 in accordance with the rules of the game. A sad day for football,” Cape Town City lamented last weekend.
Arrows will likely follow suit and attend the game, thus leaving all further actions in the hands of the PSL.
Will the PSL purnish Kaizer Chiefs?
Should the PSL COVID19 rules be applied, Amakhosi might experience a harsh punishment with multiple points deducted from their missed games.
As per the PSL rules, if a club does not present itself on the day of play after 15 minutes of kick-off has lapsed, the game gets cancelled and the team that was present wins with a 3:0 margin.
In this case, Chiefs would be declared as having forfeited 2 of their fixtures, taking them 6 points and a 6 goal difference. However, the PSL has not commented or issued a public statement in regard to the Kaizer Chiefs letter for postponement.

“It must be noted that Kaizer Chiefs has never in the past and will never play with positive Covid cases. We will also not endanger the lives of Citizens of this country by engaging in air travel from a province with the highest number of infections to another,”
“We call on responsible behaviour and the need to act as leaders as we deal with this pandemic and these extraordinary circumstances,” Kaizer Chiefs said.
