Having met in each of the last three competitions of the CAF Champions League, Mamelodi Sundowns have once again been drawn with Al Ahly in the group stages.
The Egyptian giants and Brazilians were drawn against Sudan’s big two Al Hilal and Al Merrikh.
The former Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane who’s now leading Al Ahly, knocked Masandawana out of Champions League last season in the quarter-finals.
Mosimane will be pleased to come back to his home soil when they clash with Downs who he won his first Champions League with in 2016.
“I told you I know which I like, At least I have the chance to go home… It’s okay, anything is okay for Al Ahly,” he said when he saw his club being grouped with Bafana Ba Style.
The Kagiso-born coach is aware that Sundowns will go all out to beat his troops to retaliate as Ahly overpowered them last season.
“When I was with Sundowns before, we always had Wydad [Casablanca] all the time,” he said when asked if the match between the two was becoming something of a Champions League derby.
“We played Wydad eight times in a row. So, it’s interesting, let’s play Mamelodi Sundowns. Obviously, they want to beat us, but we beat them the last two times so it’s okay.”
Mosimane also admitted that it won’t be easy going to Sudan and come back with maximum points.
“The group is a very difficult one, I think what will help is that the local teams (Sudan) will cancel each other because there is going to be a local derby,” he added.
“But, the interesting part is that the two top teams (Al Ahly & Mamelodi Sundowns) went to Sudan last year and did not win. It shows how difficult that group is going to be.”
