Eastern Cape police have established an investigation team after four men were found dead in G-West, Walmer, in Gqeberha.

Police spokesperson Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa said the victims, aged between 20 and 30, had gunshot wounds.

The circumstances of the killings were still under investigation on Sunday afternoon. No arrests had been made.

Police appeal for information

Police made enquiries in the surrounding area in an attempt to identify possible witnesses, but those efforts had not produced information by the time of the announcement.

Investigators had not released the names of the four men or said when they were believed to have been killed.

Police also had not announced a suspected motive or linked the deaths to another investigation. The location where the bodies were found was identified as G-West in Walmer.

The case is being handled by the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit. Mawisa said police were trying to identify witnesses who may have seen suspicious activity in the area.

People with information can contact the investigation team leader, Lieutenant Colonel Monde Sithole, on 082 457 2812. Information can also be given at the nearest police station or through Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

Police have not said whether the four men were known to one another or whether they were killed at the place where they were found. Those questions remain part of the investigation.

The information released by police establishes the discovery and the opening of the investigation. Further details are expected if the victims are identified or suspects are arrested.
