A recount broke the tie between the EFF and DA in Buffalo City Metro’s Ward 15, with the EFF taking the ward, according to SABC News.
The broadcaster’s report, published at 18:44 on Saturday, 7 November, says the two parties initially received 1,714 votes each. It reports that the Electoral Commission proposed a coin toss to decide the outcome.
The EFF opposed that proposal and requested a recount. SABC says the recount added 39 votes to the EFF’s tally and eight to the DA’s, resolving the deadlock in the EFF’s favour.
This account concerns the ward contest. It should not be read as a statement of the parties’ final proportional-representation allocations or the complete composition of Buffalo City’s council.
The outcome is attributed to SABC’s original reporting. This report does not independently certify the underlying ballot records or establish a reason for the difference between the first count and the recount.
