Renergen’s Virginia Gas Project in the Free State has completed commissioning and reached stable liquid helium production, parent company ASP Isotopes announced on Monday.

The company said helium was accumulating in cryogenic storage at Tetra4, the Renergen subsidiary that operates the project, ahead of initial deliveries to customers under existing offtake agreements.

The announcement marks a production milestone reported by the company, rather than confirmation that the first customer deliveries have taken place. ASP Isotopes said logistics for those deliveries were still being finalised.

Full capacity remains a target

Paul Mann, chief executive of both ASP Isotopes and Renergen, said the operation was ramping up towards nameplate capacity, which the company expects to reach during the fourth quarter of 2026.

That timetable is a forecast, not an achieved operating rate. The statement did not give a date for the first delivery or say that the plant was already operating at full capacity.

The Virginia project produces liquefied natural gas as well as helium. Renergen holds a 94.5% interest in Tetra4, according to the announcement.

ASP Isotopes cautioned that future production and revenue expectations remain subject to risks, including funding, project development, commercial arrangements and commodity prices.

The next operational checkpoints are the start of customer deliveries and evidence of sustained output as the plant ramps up. Monday’s announcement does not establish either the delivery timetable or future revenue.
