The trial-within-a-trial in the attempted murder case against Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and his co-accused is expected to resume on Monday.
The separate hearing is dealing with whether evidence obtained after the arrest of first accused Musa Kekana may be admitted in the main trial.
eNCA reported on Monday morning that the evidentiary hearing would continue. EWN reported on Friday that the state had not yet closed its case in the trial-within-a-trial after the defence produced evidence it said contradicted testimony from state witnesses.
Court to consider admissibility
The court must decide the admissibility question before the disputed material can be used in the main proceedings.
Matlala and his co-accused are on trial on charges linked to an alleged attempted murder. The charges are allegations and have not been proved.
The accused are presumed innocent unless found guilty. Monday’s proceedings are expected to remain focused on the evidence dispute rather than a final verdict in the main case.
