The uMkhonto weSizwe Party has named Nkele Annie Matime as its mayoral candidate for the City of Tshwane in the 2026 local government elections.
The party announced the decision on Saturday, saying Matime would lead its campaign in the capital ahead of the 4 November polls.
Matime previously served as a senior City of Tshwane official, including as a deputy director responsible for policy formulation and implementation. She also worked in the municipality’s local economic development division.
The MK Party says she has more than two decades of experience in public service and community development.
A mayor is elected by councillors after a municipal election rather than directly by voters. Naming a mayoral candidate sets out the party’s preferred office-bearer if it can secure sufficient council support.
The announcement adds another declared contender to the Tshwane campaign. The final composition of the council will be determined by ward and proportional-representation voting in November.
