Discovery Bank’s maximum Vitality Money fuel reward falls from 20% to 15% on Sunday, 1 November, as changes to its transport rewards take effect.
Uber leaves the bank’s standalone partner offering, while Gautrain joins. Discovery set out the changes in its October customer notice.
Which accounts qualify?
The bank lists a maximum fuel reward of 10% for Gold and Platinum Credit Card Accounts and Suites, and 15% for Black and Purple equivalents, on qualifying bp or Shell spending.
Transaction Accounts, including pay-as-you-transact and bundled-fee options, and the zero-monthly-fee Discovery Account are excluded from the Vitality Money fuel benefit unless customers move to a qualifying product.
Virtual-card payments earn the higher rate. Physical cards, including physical cards linked to digital wallets, earn a lower rate.
How the combined reward works
Discovery’s separate combined bank-and-insurance offer has a ceiling of 65%. Its 1 October announcement breaks that down into up to 50% through Vitality Drive, based on driving behaviour and status, plus up to 15% through Vitality Money with a qualifying bank product.
The combined benefit covers eligible fuel and Gautrain spending. Discovery Insure customers with active Vitality Drive membership retain a separate Uber benefit of up to 25%.
Actual rewards depend on the account, programme status and qualifying spending. Discovery’s rewards guidance says customers must activate Vitality Money, and eligibility is assessed when rewards are calculated.
Vitality Money carries a mandatory charge included in the account’s monthly fee, which varies by product and card colour. The stated percentages are maximum rewards before those account and insurance costs.
