Gauteng transport inspectors discontinued 65 unroadworthy minibuses during October, as road-safety operations targeted public transport routes ahead of the festive season.
The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport’s account, published on 5 November and carried in full by Arrive Alive, also records 22 arrests during the month.
Sixteen arrests involved alleged driving under the influence. The remaining cases concerned fraud, attempted bribery, possession of a stolen vehicle, interference and immigration-law violations.
Officers identified 140 minibus taxis without valid licence discs. Enforcement teams issued 3,532 handwritten infringement notices and processed another 3,585 electronically.
The operations formed part of the RemoveSkorokoro campaign, involving the Gauteng Transport Inspectorate, the Road Traffic Management Corporation and other agencies.
Roads and Transport MEC Kedibone Diale-Tlabela said checks would continue across the province ahead of the festive season, focusing on non-compliant drivers and unsafe vehicles.
