The Department of Electricity and Energy and Eskom are scheduled to host the South African Nuclear and Clean Energy Conference on 10 and 11 November at River Meadow Manor in Irene, Gauteng.

The arrangements were announced in a departmental advisory dated 5 November. The event combines the department’s nuclear conference with the fourth Eskom Clean Energy Conference, while retaining the focus of each programme.

The nuclear discussions will cover policy, regulation, financing, technology, partnerships, industrialisation and skills. The advisory also lists small modular reactors and opportunities to strengthen nuclear development in Africa among the planned topics.

Eskom’s programme will use the Integrated Resource Plan 2025 as its anchor. Subjects include emissions reduction, emerging technologies, grid development, regional interconnection, affordability, private-sector participation and the changing electricity market.

The department says the joint platform is intended to bring government, Eskom and other energy-sector participants together to discuss investment, infrastructure and technology requirements.

These are scheduled discussions, not confirmation of a new procurement decision or implementation measure. Any policy, financing or project commitments would need to be assessed against announcements actually made at or after the conference.
