A man has been arrested after a fatal stabbing near a voting station in Polokwane on Thursday, according to IOL’s report of police information.

IOL reported that a 31-year-old man died in a park opposite Flora Park Comprehensive School and that police arrested a 35-year-old suspect. The motive remained unknown and investigations were continuing, the report said.

Party membership attributed to EFF official

In a separate SABC report, EFF provincial chairperson Lawrence Mapoulo said the deceased was the treasurer of the party’s Flora Park branch and had been involved in a conflict with another person.

That party identification comes from Mapoulo’s account. IOL reported that police had not named the political party.

The reports place the incident outside the school voting station, rather than inside it. They do not establish that the killing had a political motive. An arrest is not a finding of guilt.
