Most of KwaZulu-Natal is covered by a Yellow Level 4 severe-thunderstorm warning for Sunday, 1 November, with heavy downpours, hail and lightning posing a risk to settlements and infrastructure.
The north-east is excluded from the warning. The South African Weather Service forecast, reported by The Citizen on Saturday, identifies possible flooding and damage from the storms.
Afternoon showers and thunderstorms
The provincial outlook starts with morning fog over the south-eastern interior. Elsewhere, conditions are forecast to be partly cloudy and warm to hot, with very hot weather in parts of the north.
Cloud is expected to increase in the afternoon, with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Rain is forecast to be more isolated in the north-east.
Along the coast, northerly to north-easterly winds are expected to turn southerly to south-westerly from the south by mid-morning, with the change reaching Richards Bay in the afternoon.
The warning concerns possible impacts, not confirmed flooding or damage. This report covers Sunday’s forecast and was checked on Saturday afternoon.
