British International Investment has presented its 2026–31 strategy in Nairobi, setting out plans to expand private-sector investment and attract additional capital across Africa.

In a statement published on 6 November, the British High Commission said the UK development finance institution aimed to invest approximately 864.3 billion Kenyan shillings of its own capital and mobilise up to 683.7 billion shillings from private investors. Those targets cover Africa, rather than an allocation solely for Kenya.

The strategy includes a climate-finance share of at least 40% and a target for at least 30% of core investments to improve economic opportunities for women. It also aims to support jobs and economic opportunities for 10 million people across the continent.

In Kenya, the focus includes businesses, infrastructure and efforts to attract institutional investors. BII chief executive Leslie Maasdorp called for partnerships with local capital providers to help finance productive businesses and infrastructure.

The figures describe the strategy’s ambitions, not completed investment, guaranteed returns or jobs already created.
